This tripod collapses and folds up for travel.  The chains keep it standing sturdily so that the legs will not splay out and dump your pot of beans.  These tripods are made of heavy 1/2 inch solid round rod.

If you prefer to shove the legs of the tripod into the ground, you may order one without chains.
